Uncasville - In a dominant victory, the UCONN Women’s Basketball Team defeats Creighton (100-51) in the Big East semifinals at Mohegan Sun and is headed to the championship game.

In the first few minutes of the game, KK Arnold, the Huskies junior point guard, stepped on the court and immediately set the tone. Her confidence and her ability to attack the boards allowed her team to gain an early lead in the game. She made 9 of her 18 career high points in the 1st quarter, and with 4 assists, she proved why she is a threat with or without the ball in her hand. “We all had that confidence in her before, but to see her being that floor general - leading us, taking shots, whether it’s a 3, getting to the rim, or getting in the paint and making plans for everyone. I feel like her presence is a lot more demanding” Senior Huskies guard Azzi Fudd states.

As the game continued, UConn dominated and proved why they are the top-ranked team in the country. Every player who touched the court made a tremendous impact on the win, and even those players who didn’t play, showed the crowd what teamwork feels like. Sarah Strong did it all in last night’s game on both sides of the court. She finished the game with 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 steals. Azzi Fudd had 16 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds. Kayleigh Heckel made a statement tonight with 9 points and 7 assists.

After tonight’s win, Head Coach Geno Auriemma discussed what went well for his team and how they are different from other teams that he has coached in the past. “We have more ways we can play. We have more bodies that can contribute. We are defensively more distributive, and we are a much different team than last year”.

UConn will play against Villanova in the championship game on Monday, March 9th, at 7 pm. Be sure to watch them play at the Mohegan Sun Arena or on Peacock.
